Many Waters - A reflection of Place
These interchangeable artworks, work in connection creating a series that relates to the themes of place and memory. Based on the Snags in the river (River Redgum trees that have been waterlogged) each thrown sculpture has a corresponding Murray Cod circling the form. This is to represent shared habitat and long connection to place.
The trees have been minimally glazed to reflect the aging process the eucalyptus go through, accumulating darker flood lines at the base. The Murray cod have been glazed to the likeness of specific fish caught on the same river, linking back to connection to place.
Euroley - A Collection of Silos
Growing up in a rural town the traces of agriculture surround you. One of these is the silo, standing imposing at the edge of each town, a sculpture in its own right. I created this work based on the corporality of the container, a vessel that holds the life of small communities and the larger world.
The clay used to create these works was harvested on the edge of Euroley near Coleambally, giving a beautiful and rich red.
